Cathy Breternitz puts on protective clothing before moving a shipment of bees into a hive at her home in Midland on April 11. Breternitz's bees, like many hives in the area, did not survive the winter due to the excessively cold temperatures. She has been keeping bees since 2008 for pollination and for the honey they produce.
