It seems like every other week one of us on staff races off to a house fire. I didn't really realize how common these are until I started listening to the scanner.
You'd have to ask Zach, but I think those firemen are "venting the roof" to let the gas buildup escape before they go running inside. Something to do with an explosion if they don't "vent" first...

You're right. It seems backwards to watch the firefighters busting out chainsaws and tearing apart roofs, but I know they do it for a reason.
