The Reason

Karl: The reason for going to the Boston Marathon. Thanks for the excuse Karl. The race was the culmination of four years of marathon training for him. He crossed the finished line in 03:07:04. I was glad to be there to witness it.

Photographing the Photogs

The first thing I do when I'm at any event is find the photographer. I even look for them on TV whenever a play goes near the sideline. It's become habit to spot my compatriots. At the Boston Marathon, I found myself not next to the press, but next to a woman with a D700 waiting for her sister to finish the race. As Karl, my roommate, was ahead of her, I took a spot on the rail and then helped her take my spot after Karl passed by (not an easy feat). We had a good time even in the stifling crowd.

Also, I noticed a few interesting things from the Boston Marathon. From left to right, girl in Patagonia chimping off her Canon, gentleman in green hat shooting with an iFlip attached to his hotshoe, guy in black fleece rocking a Canon lens on a Nikon. The important thing is that they are all keeping in real Boston style. For all you runners out there, Ryan Hall was just a few hundred meters behind the press truck.

Never Say Die

Yes, people still roller skate. I was under the impression that it was a dead sport. I was wrong.

What have I been up to?

I've been working on a video about a cyclist. Editing begins soon, but here are a couple stills from the Michigan and Michigan State collegiate cycling races. Watching the races made me want to dust off my own jersey and get into the action. Last year, I made running my sport. Maybe this year, I'll pick up cycling again.

Left, a category C Michigan cyclist attacks on the hill attempting to break away from the peloton (main pack of riders) on his home course in Ann Arbor. Below, Category D racers draft off each other approaching the finish line of the Michigan State road race.
