The first thing I do when I'm at any event is find the photographer. I even look for them on TV whenever a play goes near the sideline. It's become habit to spot my compatriots. At the Boston Marathon, I found myself not next to the press, but next to a woman with a D700 waiting for her sister to finish the race. As Karl, my roommate, was ahead of her, I took a spot on the rail and then helped her take my spot after Karl passed by (not an easy feat). We had a good time even in the stifling crowd.
Also, I noticed a few interesting things from the Boston Marathon. From left to right, girl in Patagonia chimping off her Canon, gentleman in green hat shooting with an iFlip attached to his hotshoe, guy in black fleece rocking a Canon lens on a Nikon. The important thing is that they are all keeping in real Boston style. For all you runners out there, Ryan Hall was just a few hundred meters behind the press truck.
