0000001

This is the first frame shot on the new Nikon D4 I just received for work.  I've only had it 24 hours and I am already in awe of its low light shooting capacity.  I remember using a Canon Rebel (the original rebel, not the XT) for the majority of my photo stories I shot in journalism school and being frustrated at my grainy frames when I shot anything over 800 ISO.  This was shot at 3200.  Hard to believe.  I'm extremely grateful to work at a paper that still values its photographers enough to supply us with gear.

Gladwin football tab

August means football.  It also means running around to each of our area high schools to grab team photos for the MDN football tab.  The Herald in Jasper does the same thing, and it reminded me of that summer.  "Okay, stand there.  One, two, click.  Looks good, thanks.  Next!"

Sunday design

When I opened the paper this morning I counted eight six column photos.  While we drop the bomb fairly routinely, I was still surprised to see eight.  These are my favorite five pages from today.  I designed A1 and A3, Lori Q. designed the raptor rescue pages and Chris laid out a nice four photo package from yesterday's triathlon in Sanford.  It was nice to see good photo representation from a typical week.

Feature, feature

From the past week or so.  I love the light in the summer.  Next week the Midland County Fair kicks off which is something the photo staff always looks forward to.  It'll be crazy busy, but it should be a lot of fun.

The Pearls II

This one didn't make the edit (how many underwater photos can you look at before it becomes redundant?) but I still like it.

Rall E. Camel

The Great Lakes Loons may only be a Single A baseball team but I think they have the best mascots of any team out there.  Rall E. Camel is their newest edition, though Lou E. Loon still manages to steal the show.  It's a good thing for the fans that the mascots are so entertaining since the Loons just dropped to the bottom of their division.
